The "Searching For Magpies" Track List!!!

Updated: May 29, 2019

The moment you've all been waiting for!

"Searching For Magpies", the debut album is released the 26th of September 2019!!!!! *deep breathes and lots of coffee*

From this album comes three singles, 'Don't Tell My Mother' (June 28th), 'Strawberries' (July 26th), 'Never Go Home' (August 23rd) ... but what else is on this album?

The album mirrors my total, irrational obsession with the old wives tale regarding magpies.

One for sorrow

Two for joy

Three for a girl

Four for a boy

Five for silver

Six for gold

Seven for a secret never to be told

(There are some variations to this rhyme but this is the one that I grew up with.)

I didn't realize how superstitious I was about these winged creatures until I was in Drumcondra for college, where magpies like to populate (or so it seems). It became a fun game to search for a second magpie if I only saw one and so on.... Yes I realize that sounds ridiculous but I'm a Libra I can get away with it! I even had my friends searching for them for me by the time my four years in DCU were completed.

So each song you see in the track listing picture above (photo by Shelley Corcorcan Photography) is linked to the rhyme ... but in reverse order.

Don't Tell My Mother .... seven for a secret never to be told

Home Farm ... six for gold

Get Your Story Straight ... five for sliver

Lost Boy ... four for a boy

Strawberries ... three for a girl

Never Go Home ... two for joy

December (recorded live at Beardfire Studios, Dublin) ... one for sorrow

To say I am PETRIFIED to release this album into the world is an understatement! For so long I have been saying, "Oh yeah, the album is coming." "It's coming ... soon" and hiding behind that ambiguity. Then, BOOM! The album is made, it's uploaded and waiting for the release date and my thoughts and feelings are going to be released into the world! The only way I can describe this process of album creation is opening a diary and screaming to the local population:

"COME LISTEN TO ME SPILL MY THOUGHTS AND WORRIES"

The mission with this album was to make every song embody a different vibe. From the moment I started this music journey I always found it difficult to grasp the idea of being 'boxed into one genre'. I hated it. The concept of sticking to one genre really blocked me from writing and creating music that I actually enjoyed performing. This album shows that, as every song is 'folk' mixed with something! From folk-pop in 'Don't Tell My Mother' to funk in 'Strawberries', I try to bring you on a journey through my brain and thoughts, all while hunting for that ever important pair of magpies.

In the coming weeks I will be going through each song and giving you a hint of what to expect and where I was mentally when I sat down to write them. I will be sharing the links between songs and the stories behind them!

I just want to take this time to also thank my label, Beardfire; David, Rohan and Al, for taking my songs and making them into what they are now and giving me all the support that this little emotional Libra needed. I also want to thank Zoe Farrell of MusicWand (give her a follow!) for being a huge support and for booking gigs and providing a huge amount of advice continuously throughout this process!

Stay stunning, little magpies!
